Quit Being Overrun by Distractions

How many of you struggle with distractions? I know those of us who suffer from ADHD and procrastination are pros at allowing distractions to derail us, but I think we are all prone to distractions just on different levels. I for one, because of mild ADHD and OCD, struggle with this issue. You start out your day being carefully prepared and organized, having the best of intentions, and bam, here comes the thief of distractions!! Sound familiar? Well in battling this myself, I am here to give you some insight and keys to combat this rather annoying and inefficient way of life!

The truth is, distractions are a significant barrier to being productive, often stemming from noise, thoughts, and many other things. I'm excellent at multi-tasking, but can be quickly derailed having a monkey wrench thrown smack dab in the middle of my tasks, thus losing all momentum! I am OCD about being efficient and productive so you can image my level of frustration!!! If you don't like something, FIX IT!!! It's pretty plain and simple, but you have to be proactive. How? Actively manage your environment, set clear goals, be mindful, and remember that it's important to take breaks to keep momentum. Make a MIT [ most important things ] list at night before prepping yourself for bed. Put the two [ maybe four ] things that absolutely MUST get done the next day. Side note here.....making a to do list prevents your mind from going in circles, eliminates stress, and since it's all down on paper, you have a guide for your day. I know what distracts me, so I create an environment that is conducive to the level of achievement for that day. I can't blog for instance, with music on or any other kind of noise. Even if there isn't physical noise such as the TV or music, an environment can "feel" busy. I have a special room in my house which I refer to as my "serenity room," and it's in that space that I can read, write, or tend to business matters. Only you can decipher what works for you and what doesn't.....what you need your environment to look and be like. Turn off distractions, don't have unrealistic goals, have break times in place, and then reward yourself with something simple. For example, I know what must be done for me to be able to relax and totally indulge in my work. So, what works best for me is to, have my God time with coffee in the quiet of the morning, have my workouts done, go to the tanning bed, then have everything I need to do laid out. You may have to make sacrifices in order to be ready and prepped to go such as getting up a little earlier. Again, only you can figure that out or you may already know.

Time is a big thing to me and I want to make the most of it. Some days don't always go as planned so you need to be able to be flexible!! If everything around you makes your mind feel cluttered and filled with so much chaos that you can't think straight, your first order of business is to fix it. Ask God for clarity and understanding when your life doesn't make sense, when things don't go to plan. God is not the author of confusion and chaos but of peace. When the enemy     [ Satan ] tries to plant seeds of deception, confusion, and all the other tactics he WILL try to use, simply ask God to point you to truth and ask Him what is most important for that moment, that day. You will be far less likely to be rendered ineffective and unproductive. Refuse to let deception, distractions, and anything not of God to take root in your heart and make itself at home. Ask God to align your heart with His will and I guarantee you, your days will be much less stressful and orderly. I thrive on order and organization. It also gives you a sense of control which most if not everyone craves. Let His plan for you be your main focus, and anything that isn't aligned with it be disregarded as a tactic used to knock you off course.

Everything I share with you, if you've been following me from the beginning, you will see has been taken from my life story and then broken down into life tips, encouragement for when life gets hard, and much more!!! If you want more peace and simplicity in your life, here you go!!!
